am em

From my perspective

over here ham fisted

on a coffee break

the cup looks empty

you have not sipped

but if you looked down

you could tell me

I do not ask

it is just a cup

my water glass

is half full

you can see this

though refraction

may affect your

perception

as does the rose tint

to your cheeks

someone nudges the table

my glass spills over

your eyes march across

as the water runs off

I try and catch the glass

you catch my eye

the glass smashes

under my hand

A spurt of red

heads turn

cutlery scrapes and chairs shift

use caution.

be gentle

with building blocks

a e i o u

nonsense stated as fact

is a legitimate cause for

concern when days are

short, the sun does not shine

and I do not believe in poetry

cake I can believe in.

You can hold a cake

you can taste it.

You can taste a poem

but you can only hold

a page. Don’t hold

your breath when

trying to concentrate

Go to sleep said the night

as a trial. Let me present you

a starry blanket and whisper

you a spark of dreams to

gloam the darkness.

High windows with faces

green and peering

or otherwise blank

expressionistic blurs

Transparent apparitions

reflect daydream breath

against exterior weeping
